EV Tax in Nepal 2082/83 (2026): Annual Bluebook Renewal & Insurance Rates
By [Your Name/Website Name]
Owning an electric vehicle (EV) in Nepal is not just eco-friendly; it is also wallet-friendly compared to petrol vehicles. As we move into the Fiscal Year 2082/83 (2025-2026), the government has updated the annual tax (Bluebook renewal) and insurance structures.
If you are confused about how much you need to pay for your electric scooter or car this year, we have compiled the full authorized list below. This guide covers the Annual Road Tax, Third-Party Insurance, and the Fine System for late payments.
1. EV Two-Wheeler Tax Rates 2082/83
Electric scooters and bikes enjoy significantly lower taxes than their petrol counterparts. The tax is calculated based on the motor power (Watts) of your vehicle.
| S.N. | Battery Power (Watts) | Annual Tax (NPR) |
| 1 | Upto 350 Watts | Rs. 1,000 |
| 2 | 351 W to 1000 W | Rs. 1,500 |
| 3 | 1001 W to 1500 W | Rs. 2,000 |
| 4 | 1501 W and Higher | Rs. 3,000 |
Note: Taxes may vary slightly depending on the province (Bagmati, Gandaki, etc.), but these are the standard applicable rates for most regions.
2. EV Four-Wheeler Tax Rates 2082/83
For electric cars (SUVs, hatchbacks, and sedans), the tax is based on the Motor Peak Power (kW). Even the most powerful EVs pay a fraction of what a 2000cc petrol car pays.
| S.N. | Motor Power (kW) | Annual Tax (NPR) |
| 1 | 10 kW to 50 kW | Rs. 5,000 |
| 2 | 51 kW to 125 kW | Rs. 15,000 |
| 3 | 126 kW to 200 kW | Rs. 20,000 |
| 4 | 201 kW and Higher | Rs. 30,000 |
Pro Tip: Most popular EVs in Nepal like the Tata Tiago EV (approx 45-55kW) and BYD Atto 3 (100kW+) fall into the Rs. 15,000 bracket.
3. EV Third-Party Insurance Rates
Third-party insurance is mandatory for bluebook renewal in Nepal. Below are the government-fixed premiums for EVs.
Two-Wheelers (Electric Scooters/Bikes)
| S.N. | Motor Power | Insurance Premium (NPR) |
| 1 | Below 800 W | Rs. 1,715 |
| 2 | 800 W – 1200 W | Rs. 1,945 |
| 3 | 1200 W and Above | Rs. 2,167 |
Four-Wheelers (Electric Cars)
| S.N. | Motor Power | Insurance Premium (NPR) |
| 1 | Below 20 kW | Rs. 7,365 |
| 2 | More than 20 kW | Rs. 8,495 |
4. Fine Rates for Late Payment
If you miss the renewal deadline (which is usually the end of the fiscal year, Ashad end), fines accumulate quickly.
| S.N. | Delay Period | Fine Percentage (%) |
| 1 | First 30 Days (from expiration) | 5% |
| 2 | Upto 45 Days | 10% |
| 3 | Upto End of Same Fiscal Year | 20% |
| 4 | Upto 5 Years (Per Year) | 32% |
